Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah

When I posted my Shrimp with Corn Relish recipe, several of my readers expressed interest in my newly acquired corn zipper. I decided to have a give away on my blog so that one of my lucky readers could be the proud owner of their very own corn zipper. I purchased one at Sur la Table tonight after date night with my husband. (I always try to make date night at a restaurant in or near the mall so I can squeeze a shopping trip out of him - it doesn't always, but tonight it worked!)

So here are the rules:

1. Leave a comment to this post stating your name (if it doesn't already show in your comments) and your favorite dish made with corn.
2. The deadline is Friday January 23, 2009 at Midnight EST.
3. I will use a random number generator to pick a number out of the comments posted.
4. Then I will have the winner email me the address where they would like to have the shiny corn zipper shipped.

Good Luck!

  17. I love to eat plain old corn-on-the-cob. It's been a favorite since childhood and I'm one of the only people in my immediate family that enjoys it. I'm also a big fan of corn casserole around the holidays. I would love to have one of these corn zippers because I've never tried de-cob corn before and I think this would be so much easier than doing it the traditional way. I've never seen one of these before. Thanks so much for sharing it!

  37. There is nothing better than in the summer having wonderful sweet corn. As long as I can remember my mother or grandmother would cut the corn kernels off the cob and freeze those little chuncks of gold to put in soups for fresh corn chowder or cowboy cavier (a dumb name for a pico de gallo like salsa with black-eyed peas and of course fresh corn). I started last summer freezing corn in my own kitchen so that my family could have have delicious fresh corn all year. However, it's a lot of hard work to cut it off the cobb!-caramaddox@gmail.com

I just have to get this whenever I brave the crowds of Taste of Chicago. For whatever reason, the corn tastes better when you're surrounded by sweaty masses of people in a park under a blistering sun. :)

  53. CORN CHOWDER- specifically, the recipe from Prudence Pennywise.

also- Corn Bread- the sweet kind, not that brick-like flavorless stuff that my grandparents make and crumble into buttermilk. I know- I know- true southerners hate sugar in cornbread- but whatever- I.LOVE.IT.

ooh- also grilled corn on the cob with loads of butter!

Ok so all of those are favorites! YAY GIVE AWAYS!!! WOOOOO!!

  63. I love anything and everything corn....with one exception..the aforementioned scalloped corn. BLECH! But my two favorite things are elotes, which is a mexican dish...basically just roasted corn then cut off the cob and put in a cup with mayonnaise, fresh squeezed lime juice, parmesan cheese, chili powder. My other is chili - but with corn in it. I don't know why...maybe for the texture...but biting into some crisp corn amidst all the mushy beans, meat, and tomatoes is YUMMY!!!
